Read 1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Visit the Minerva Public Library and sign your child up for this free program to encourage reading 1000 books with your child before he or she enters kindergarten--a goal that experts say will help a child learn to read for themselves.

Reading together helps develop important pre-reading skills that provide a solid reading foundation that can be a key to school and learning success.  Besides, sharing books and stories together is just fun!

WHAT YOU DO AFTER SIGNING UP:

1.Read books together. Color an icon on the reading log for each book read.

2. When you finish 100 books, bring your completed reading log to the library receive a special sticker to
place on the Space to Read wall & get the next 100 level reading log.

3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 to receive a different sticker and reading log for each 100 level.

4. After reading 1000 books each child receives an award certificate, their name on our Wall of Fame, and a huge jumpstart on school!

The program has no end date except your child's first day of Kindergarten, so don't feel rushed.  Just enjoy reading!  The goal of 1000 books before Kindergarten is easily obtainable; just one bedtime story a night for three years equals 1095 books read!
