The library serves a diverse community, and we recognize that opinions about materials may differ. If a patron has concerns about an item in the collection, we encourage them to first discuss those concerns with library staff.
If, after that conversation, the patron would like the library to formally review the material, they may complete a Request for Reconsideration of Library Materials form. Forms are available at the library service desks.
Because materials are evaluated as a whole, a title will not be reconsidered unless the patron has read, viewed, or listened to the entire work. Reconsideration forms must include the name of the person making the request. Anonymous submissions cannot be considered. If an item has previously gone through the reconsideration process, it will not be reviewed again unless the new request presents substantially different concerns.
The request will be referred to a collection development committee for review. The patron will receive written notice acknowledging receipt of the request and will later receive written notice of the committee’s decision.
If the patron is not satisfied with the decision, they may submit a written appeal to the Library Board of Trustees. Appeals should be addressed to:
President, Board of Trustees
Minerva Public Library
677 Lynnwood Dr.
Minerva, OH 44657
The Board will review the appeal and provide a written decision, usually following the next regularly scheduled Board meeting.
During the reconsideration process, the material will remain in the collection to respect the rights of other patrons to read, view, or listen.
