Call for Artists: MPL Circulating Art Collection

Borrow Original Art with Your Library Card

Minerva Public Library is launching a Circulating Art Collection: original, professionally framed artwork by local and regional artists that you can check out and enjoy at home, much like a book.

How It Works

  • Borrow it. Check out a framed original artwork with your Minerva Public Library card for a set loan period.
  • Display it. Each piece is professionally matted and framed, and comes with a protective carrying case, handling instructions, and information about the artist.
  • Return it. Bring it back and borrow something new. Artworks hang in the library whenever they are not on loan.

The collection showcases original works that celebrate the creativity and talent of our region. Every piece purchased becomes a permanent part of the library's collection, so generations of Minerva residents can enjoy the work of local artists.

A public opening reception celebrating the artists and introducing the collection is planned for spring 2027.

We are inviting local and regional artists to submit original two-dimensional artwork for the collection. The library will purchase approximately ten works.

How Works Are Selected

A community jury, which may include library staff and community representatives, will review all submissions. Selections are based on artistic quality, suitability for public circulation, and the goal of building a diverse and engaging collection.

Use of Images

By submitting artwork, artists grant Minerva Public Library permission to reproduce images of selected works for promotional purposes related to the library and the collection, including print, web, and social media.

Serve on the Jury

We are also looking for community members to serve on the selection jury. If you have an interest in the arts, education, local history, or community engagement, we would love to hear from you. Email art@minervalibrary.info to get involved.
