Artificial Intelligence has become a cultural flashpoint since the release of Chat GPT in 2022. Proponents argue that AI will be a revolutionary force for good, while others are raising the alarm. In this talk we will trace the development of AI (what is it really, and how does it work?) and discuss how AI is transforming our culture. Specific attention will be paid to bias in AI, applications to learning and healthcare, and the environmental cost of AI.
