(May 10, 2012) The Auditor of State of Ohio's office has released its report of the agreed upon procedures audit of the library for the years 2010-2011. The library Trustees are pleased to report that the audit found no exceptions. You may read the report online at the Auditor's website.
(May 4, 2012) Daily life for the Civil War soldier was not all marching and fighting; in fact, it was mostly spent in camp. How did soldiers pass their time? What kind of games, sports, music, and recreation were popular in the 1860s? Join Leslie Heaphy, Associate Professor of History at Kent State University, Stark Campus, for a lively and informative look at how soldiers and civilians occupied their minds and hands during wartime. Professor Heaphy is a popular speaker at the library and her special interest in the history of baseball will add extra zip to the evening.
A big thank you to everyone who shopped at the library's Spring Book Sale.The sale took in $923.25 to support library programs and the purchase of new library materials this year for you to check out and enjoy. The next book sale will take place in June during Minerva's Homecoming celebration.
(March 28, 2012) The library's spring book sale opens this Saturday, March 31, at 10:00 am and continues through the coming week. Books for ages and interests are sold at reasonable prices to benefit the library's program and materials budgets. New items are added to the sale each day, so it pays to stop by several times. On Saturday, April 7, the popular $1 a bag sale will run from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Donations are always welcome.
(March 13, 2012) The library's spring book sale begins March 31, and the library is now accepting donations of gently used books, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, and audiobooks. If you have a large number of items to donate, please give us a call first so we can make room. Proceeds from the book sale support library programs and the purchase of new materials this year for you to check out and enjoy.
(March 12, 2012) March is a great month for stargazing so stop by the library on Tuesday, March 20 for a couple of interesting and entertaining programs. At 7:00 pm, Joann Ballbach, from the Wilderness Center in Wilmot will talk about “Things You Know about Astronomy that just Aren’t So.” Children and adults will enjoy this fascinating and fun look at common astronomy “myth-conceptions” Weather permitting, the friendly folks from the Wilderness Center Astronomy Club will set up their big telescopes so we can all enjoy a great view of the five planets visible in the evening sky this month. The viewing starts around 8:00 pm and everyone will have a good chance to take a look.
(February 21, 2012) This coming Tuesday, 02/28, the library will open at noon rather than 10:00 am so that library staff may attend some training at the library as one group.
(February 14, 2012) The library will be closed on Monday, 02/20, as a day of mandatory unpaid leave for all library staff. This is the second of five furlough days staff will take this year. No library materials checked out from the Minerva Public Library are due on any day that the library is closed.
